Kirstin Thomas is co-founder of KindredMind, a voice companion for families navigating dementia. She lives in Ontario, Canada, about twenty minutes from her mother Sharon, who lives with vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and the aftermath of an ischaemic stroke that left her with left-side paralysis. Kirstin co-founded KindredMind after Sharon would call her sometimes ten times before lunch, looking for a familiar voice. Existing tools told caregivers to block or silence the calls. Kirstin wanted a different answer, one that addressed the loved one's anxiety and let the caregiver be present for everyone they cared for, including themselves. Kirstin writes about various dementia topics at kindredmind.care/blog. She is available for interviews on dementia caregiving and family care technology.
